Tom Dean, a triple Olympic champion, is gearing up for a remarkable feat: breaking the English Channel Relay World Record alongside five other British swimmers. This ambitious endeavor aims to raise funds for water safety education through the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSSUK).
The team, led by mentor Andy Donaldson, who completed the Oceans Seven marathon swimming challenge in a single year, will attempt to swim the 33-kilometer English Channel in under 6 hours and 52 minutes. This record, set by the US national team in 1990, has remained unbroken for 36 years.
Each swimmer will endure the challenge of swimming through tidal currents of up to 12 knots (approximately 13.8 miles per hour) for roughly one hour. The swim will commence on the Kent Coast of England and conclude in France later this month.
Dean, a celebrity ambassador for RLSSUK, expressed his determination on Instagram, stating that it's "about time" the record returns to British hands.
